Introduction

The LeoVegas Casino and Sportsbook are owned by LeoVegas Gaming Ltd., based in Malta, but headquartered in Stockholm, as it is a Swedish provider of gaming services that cater to most international markets.

For a company that’s only five years old, it has certainly made its mark in the online gambling industry.

Only 11 restricted countries are explicitly called out in the website’s Terms and Conditions, but the markets that are primarily catered to include the United Kingdom, Ireland, Sweden, Norway, and Finland.

The vision for the site came from Gustaf Hagman (CEO of LeoVegas Group), and Robin Ramm-Ericson (Chairman of the Board and CXO) and that was and is to be the number one mobile casino in the world with the all-around best experience for betting on the go.

The mobile site was the priority which is opposite of most online service providers that consider smartphone and tablet users to be secondary, but the focus on a portable casino was a great bet as the smartphone is the fastest growing entertainment channel.

In Nordic countries where LeoVegas has a huge customer base, an incredible 96% of internet users in Denmark and Sweden are smartphone users. In Norway, it’s 97%, and Finland comes in at 94%. When you look at those figures, it’s easy to see why this site places such an emphasis on mobile betting.

Another distinguishable feature of Leovegas.com is the roster of software providers that combine to create an overall service with one of the most sizeable online casinos that we’ve come across. We’ll get into the various games and sections of the casino shortly but, before we move on, let’s just say that in the slot games category alone, there are 670 different machines on the full site and a whopping 594 in the mobile casino from which to select. If you average most casinos’ slot inventory, it would most likely come in around the 200 mark, so 670 is a pretty significant number.

Award-Winning Casino

So, how about those multiple awards that we that touched on at the beginning? LeoVegas launched in 2012, and the accolades started pouring in just a year later.

The mobile-focused concept was publicly recognized as LeoVegas received the “Best Innovation in Mobile and Tablet” EGR Innovation Award.

Other recognition

  • 2013 “Best Innovation in Casino of the Year” – EGR Nordic Awards
  • 2014 “Best Mobile Product of the Year – EGR Nordic Awards
  • 2015 “Affiliate Program of the Year” – EGR Nordic Awards
  • 2015 “Slots Operator of the Year” – EGR Nordic Awards
  • 2015 “Grand Prize Award” – GP Bullhound Summit
  • 2016 “Mobile Operator of the Year” – EGR Nordic Awards
  • 2016 “Casino Operator of the Year” – EGR Nordic Awards
  • 2016 “Nordic Operator of the Year” – EGR Nordic Awards
  • 2016 “Online Casino Operator of the Year” – International Gaming Awards
  • 2016 “Casino Operator of the Year” – Gaming Intelligence Awards
  • 2016 “Best Mobile Campaign of the Year” – EGR Nordic Awards
  • 2016 “Best CRM Campaign of the Year” – EGR Nordic Awards
  • 2017 “Online Casino Operator of the Year” – International Gaming Awards

In 2016, not only did the casino have their IPO (Initial Public Offering) in Stockholm in March, but then launched LeoVegas Sport, the mobile sportsbook service. Just before the IPO, they had an estimated 202,000 customers who had deposited and used the service. The introduction of the sportsbook and the awards that keep rolling in can only serve to increase an already large roster of players who enjoy the concept.

Accreditations and Security

As far as overall website safety and the simple matter of money being deposited and changing hands, the site uses SSL encryption technology. As this is an e-commerce business, the technology is in place to keep both personal and financial records safe and secure.

Secondly, online gambling providers need to provide their customers with fair and safe gaming and the very fact that the company has UK Gambling Commission licensing and regulation should address any concerns about fair gaming. The UK Gambling Commission mandates that their licensees be independently certified annually. They have three other licenses in place with Danish, Irish, and Malta regulation.

User Experience

In the interest of full disclosure, when we first visited leovegas.com, we were underwhelmed. Our initial impression was that it was a very elementary website. The graphics and overall design are simplistic, and there’s initially nothing to grab your attention and say “look at me… I have an awesome service.”

However, as we were starting going through the pages of information and researching the concept, we had an immediate change in perspective.

First of all, simplistic is good when you’re concentrating on the mobile play. Bells and whistles aren’t going to cut it. Graphics and visual enhancements only serve to slow down the operation of the mobile site.

Secondly, if you look at the sheer volume of the available games, you have to give it high marks right there. We’re not talking about a few extra games thrown in here and there. These are significant numbers. 670 slots is a huge number and then take a peek in the Live Casino and, if you’ve been on competitor sites that have live dealer service, what do you find? Maybe six to eight games are available at the most.

Venture into their live dealer area and take your pick from 43 different tables on the regular website. Not multiple tables of the same game but, rather, these are all different types of variations. There’s a Roulette Live stream from the Admiral Casino, Dual Play Roulette from the Dragonara, and London, Swedish, Dansk, and German Live Roulette as well.

So, our point is that first impressions can be deceiving. They certainly were in this case.

As far as the overall breakdown of the service, the website can be translated into the following languages:

  • Czech
  • Danish
  • English
  • Finnish
  • German
  • Norwegian
  • Slovenian
  • Swedish

The entire overall product is comprised of games from a huge number of prominent software providers:

  • Authentic Gaming
  • Big Time Gaming
  • Blueprint
  • Elk
  • Evolution
  • Edict
  • Extreme Live Gaming
  • Ezugi
  • Felt Games
  • GameVy
  • Genesis
  • Genii
  • IGT
  • iSoftbet
  • Lightning Box
  • Nektan
  • NetEnt
  • Nextgen
  • Microgaming
  • Play’N go
  • Play Tech
  • Pragmatic Play
  • Push Gaming
  • Quickfire
  • Quickspin
  • Realistic Games
  • Thunderkick
  • 2by2
  • SG Interactive (WMS, Bally, SM & Barcrest)
  • Skillzgaming
  • Yggdrasil

Let’s Enter the Casino

The Casino Lobby

LeoVegas takes you right to the heart of the action. There’s no welcome page or introductory information. The games are front and center, and every category has the game count posted. This set-up is a smart idea as it is that impressive quantity of gambling options that is one of the most positive aspects of the site.

Before we break each type of game down, here’s a partial list of what players consider to be their favorite overall selections. Ironically, many of the top games are classic slots housed in the smallest area of the casino with only 22 games in total.

  • Bonanza Megaways
  • Starburst
  • LeoVegas Live Roulette
  • Celebrity Blackjack Party
  • 3 Genie Wishes
  • Drive Multiplier Mayhem
  • Secrets of Atlantis
  • Mega Fortune (£1.4 million)
  • Jimi Hendrix
  • London Live Roulette
  • Mystery Joker
  • Divine Fortune Jackpot
  • Dansk Celebrity Blackjack

Slots

Do you think we’ve said 670 slots enough? It just bears repeating, as it is such an extraordinary number. That is a lot of games. Think about 670 machines in a brick and mortar casino. They would take up a huge area and players would need to walk around and review them all to narrow down the options.

The online experience may not provide as much exercise, but it more than makes up for that in the convenience it offers.

These slot games are all over the board in themes and pay lines and all of the enhancements that slot players have grown to expect. There are wild cards and bonus rounds, jackpots and mini jackpots, scatter reels and free spins. Slot players could select a different game every day and still not experience every single game in a year’s time.

Some of the fun and interactive games include:

  • Hong Kong Tower
  • Panda Pow!
  • Taco Brothers Saving Christmas
  • Ted
  • Wild Wild West: The Great Train Heist
  • Hercules High and Mighty
  • Wonder Woman Gold
  • Family Guy
  • Wheel of Fortune Triple Extreme! Spin
  • Game of Thrones
  • Playboy Online Slot
  • Andre the Giant
  • Mona Lisa Jewels
  • Super Monopoly Money
  • Dr. Jekyll Goes Wild

Jackpot Games

The dedicated jackpot game area is another surprise as it, too, is a big area with 30 different variations all providing big money potential for those top payouts that are the ultimate goal of every slot player.

Amounts for those grand prizes are at all different levels and continuously update with more game play. Some current jackpots are listed to correspond to some of the top paying games, but these are temporary numbers just provided to give you an idea of what type of payout potential is available.

  • Mega Fortune Dreams – £4.1 million
  • Arabian Nights – £1.9 million
  • Mega Fortune £1.4 million
  • Hall of Gods – £774,000
  • Mega Jackpots Cleopatra – £663,000
  • Mega Jackpots Wolf Run – £663,000
  • Isle of Plenty – £663,000
  • Cosmic Fortune – £73,000
  • Caribbean Stud Poker
  • Texas Hold ‘em Bonus
  • Mega Jackpot Star Lantern

Speaking of jackpots, this casino holds the record for the highest mobile casino payout with over £4.4 million!

Classic Slots

We mentioned that Classic Slots ranked amongst the highest played in the LeoVegas Casino. These are the most basic versions compared to video and other high-tech slots that go well above and beyond the original one-armed bandit concept.

Some classic slots include:

  • Mega Moolah – £1 million
  • Danger High Voltage
  • Dead or Alive
  • Jungle Spirit Call of the Wild
  • Raging Rhino

If you’re not familiar with all of them, you may recognize Mega Moolah. It’s a wildly popular game available on many of this casino’s competitors and provides a massive £1 million prize to the occasional incredibly lucky player.

Table Games

We really like the diversity of the Table Games area. It covers the gamut of Poker, Baccarat, Blackjack, and Roulette. There are 54 games in all so table game players that shy away from the Live Casino don’t need to look far to find a table they’d like to join in this area.

  • 3 Card Brag
  • TXS Hold ‘em Professional Series
  • Perfect Pairs
  • Baccarat
  • Caribbean Stud
  • Red Dog
  • Oasis Poker
  • Pai Gow Poker
  • Double Xposure
  • Blackjack
  • Joker Poker
  • Pinball Roulette
  • Double Zero Roulette
  • Roulette European

Live Roulette

It’s surprising that there could be 36 different types of Roulette all in one area but, it’s true. With the multiple game providers such as Evolution, Netent, Felt, and Extreme, these games are all going to have a different feel to them similarly to the slot games from various developers.

Did we mention 36 games in all?

  • Double Ball Roulette
  • Speed Live
  • Key Bet
  • High Limit
  • Double Bonus Spin
  • French, American, European
  • Monopoly Roulette Hot Properties
  • London Live Roulette
  • Swedish Live Roulette
  • Dansk
  • German
  • Roulette Live Stream from the Admiral Casino

Live Casino

With all of the tables and live games we’ve already mentioned, you would think we would have thoroughly covered the Live Casino topic but, no, we’ve got more to share.

The Live Casino really does warrant the separate designation. This section is not just a few games put together to satisfy some players who enjoy the live dealer interaction. The Live Casino is 43 games deep on the full website and is even larger in mobile format, and table variety is key.

The Live Casino is presented in HD quality in seven different languages and the Live Roulette section is the largest of all online casinos.

  • Speed Live Baccarat
  • Caribbean Stud Poker
  • Blackjack Collection
  • Extreme Blackjack Collection
  • Dual Play Roulette from the Dragonara Casino
  • Common Draw BJ
  • RA Roulette
  • Baccarat Squeeze
  • Roulette
  • New: Speed Live Roulette
  • Immersive Roulette
  • Live Golden Ball Roulette
  • Live Roulette

The Live Casino also includes LeoVegas’ exclusive games.

The Mobile Casino

Usually, when we get to the section that details the mobile casino, we discuss a scaled-down representation of the full PC or Mac version of the website. In the case of LeoVegas, it’s a different scenario. The LeoVegas Group launched the casino with mobile use as its primary function so the mobile site and apps are nearly as substantial as the full site and, in some cases, even have more to offer.

The mobile website is easy to navigate and a few features were even added to enhance the overall experience.

From the left side menu, there is an “our apps” selection with a redirect to the LeoVegas app in the Apple Store or for the Android download. If you’re an Android user, be sure to take particular note that the LeoVegas app is not available in the Google Play store. It needs to be installed directly from android.leovegas.com. Users need to make sure their default settings are first changed to allow apps from outside of the Google Play store.

Registration, promotions, licensing information, customer service, and all other areas of the main website are also available in the mini format. They’re easy to locate and have a straightforward interaction, so mistakes aren’t made easily.

The most important part of the website, though, is the game play itself and mobile users will be pleasantly overwhelmed with the number of options they have throughout the entire casino.

I’d like to specifically mention here a dedicated live gaming section called Chambre Séparée that is a high roller area with fast betting action and a high-quality HD experience. LeoVegas has a separate promotion for Chambre Séparée players currently going on every weekend now for a limited period whereby players will receive £10 every time they’re dealt a Bonus Card at any of the Chambre Séparée Blackjack tables. Also, they receive £10 every time they record a win with the day’s lucky number at the Roulette table.

A gold card is also in the mix each evening and the one lucky player dealt that card on Celebrity Blackjack or LeoVegas Blackjack Tables 1 and 2 (if it’s dealt to a player), receives £500.

Starburst Live Roulette provides some free spin rewards based on the number ten. Every ten rounds of Starburst equals ten free spins for a total of up to 100 free spins per day.

If you were initially skeptical about the depth of LeoVegas’ mobile casino, reviewing the game choices should offer proof of their top-notch portable gaming operation.

Money In – Money Out

As we’ve mentioned it a few times now already, you’re probably well aware that LeoVegas doesn’t put forward their comprehensive list of deposit and withdrawal methods. It does include some icons for a few payment providers at the bottom of the homepage but, unless you’re a fully registered player, you have no full menu of financial options for moving funds into a player account and then cashing out winnings.

We got in touch with their customer service department and, although they didn’t provide details on minimum and maximum levels and fees, we did find some additional information in the terms and conditions area, so we hope this is helpful to anyone considering becoming a member of LeoVegas.

Leo Vegas allows for payments in EUR, GBP, SEK, NZD, CAD, CHF, CZK, NOK, DKK, and AUD.

Deposit Options

The customer service agent did not mention any deposit fees. We’re going to take a leap and assume that there aren’t any, but don’t hold us to it.

For anyone not familiar with Trustly, it’s a safe and secure way to move money in and out of a personal bank account. Trustly is regulated by the Swedish FSA (the organization that regulates Swedish banks overall), so it’s no wonder that it’s a preferred method of LeoVegas.

A particular account isn’t required to use Trustly, but it is based on a customer’s banking login.

Trustly is available in 29 European countries including Sweden, Finland, and Denmark, as well as the UK. It’s also mobile optimized, so it fits in well with the LeoVegas premise.

Bonuses and Special Offers

Bonuses are a highly debated subject when they’re given in conjunction with online gambling. There’s something very appealing about joining a casino that promotes “deposit £100 and we’ll give you another £100”. 100% match bonuses and all kinds of variations on that type of award are out there enticing new players to come aboard.

However, when it comes to actually using that bonus, players can be surprised (and not in a good way) at how their cash out total isn’t really available for cashing out at all.

Many online sportsbooks or casinos have some substantial rollover requirements that accompany these offers. The rollover typically combines the deposited amount with bonus amount and then mandates that the total is played through a certain number of times, anywhere from two up to 35 or even higher. That rollover must be satisfied before any real money can be claimed.

Now, LeoVegas does offer a welcome bonus. It’s a fairly substantial bonus program that breaks down into four parts. We’ll get into the ins and outs of it in just a minute. What we really want to point out, though, is that even though play cash is issued and there is a rollover requirement, the structure of using any bonus funds is different.

LeoVegas doesn’t combine the deposit and bonus money together. It treats play cash as a separate amount and, therefore, provides more benefit to its players.

Using the scenario of £100 deposit and £100 bonus, a typical casino that combines them looks at the total player account as £200 that needs to be played through completely. If the rollover is ten times, that £200 turns into £2,000 of mandatory betting before anything can be cashed out.

As the casino separates out the amounts, the first £100 (the original deposit of real money) is used first. So if a player plays up to their deposited amount and wins, he or she can withdraw their profit.

If a player loses the first £100 and then converts the bonus award to play cash, they now are working on the second £100 and have to “earn” the benefit of withdrawal. That means that the bonus amount must be played through 35 times (for a traditional welcome bonus) before anything is considered to be cashable.

The scenario has two benefits:

  1. The cash deposit is played first and can be cashed out if wagering was profitable.
  2. The cash deposit and bonus are not combined and given the rollover requirement. Only the bonus is subject to the play through rule.

There’s one more scenario to consider and that’s regarding the free spin promotions. Free spins are part of the welcome bonus package and can be awarded in conjunction with other promotions and tournaments, so we want to give you just a quick “how to” on using these types of rewards.

Free Spins

The bet per spin is typically predetermined so LeoVegas may promote something like “20 free spins on (game) with a bet of 25p per spin”. The direction must be followed exactly to the letter.

Winnings that result from free spins are transferred to the player’s account and designated as bonus money.
The bonus money that came from free spin success then has a rollover requirement of 35 times before any real money is eligible for payout.

Free Money Bonuses

The third type of bonus is occasionally given at the discretion of LeoVegas to its players and it’s called a free money bonus, as it’s a lump sum of play cash. It is considered to be a regular bonus award, though, and is subject to LeoVegas’ standard 35 times rollover requirement.

Bonuses are limited to players from select regions only, although there may be a few one-off exceptions that will specifically be noted. Customers from Austria, Finland, Germany, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom are invited to participate in bonus and free spin promotions.

Oh, one more thing before we dive into specific individual promotions. Different types of games will count in various percentages toward the rollover requirement. For example, most slots will contribute at 100% whereas table games are only 10%. A few slot games like 1429 Uncharted Seas, Blood Suckers, Dead or Alive, Devils Delight, Supernova, and Simsalabim come in at 70%. Forsaken Kingdom, Pearls of India, Robin Hood – Shifting Riches, Kings of Chicago, Wishmaster, and Zombies are all exempt games from bonus rollover participation.

Option 1 – £1600 Welcome Bonus and 100 Free Spins

If a player opts for the Live Casino Welcome Bonus (option 2), they are not eligible for this particular offer.

  • Minimum Deposit = £50* per bonus
  • Deposit Match = 200% on a minimum of £50 deposited
  • Maximum Reward = £100 per bonus
  • Rollover Requirement = 35 times on bonus only (not deposited amount)

*The minimum of £50 is required to get a 200% match. Deposits from £10 – £49.99 are eligible for a 100% match.

This welcome bonus is a four-tiered award with each deposit yielding the player a match bonus and 25 free spins. Profits from the free spins are converted to bonus money that then has the 35 times play through attached.

Neteller and Skrill users are not eligible for this bonus.

Option 2 – Live Casino Bonus of up to £250

If a player opts for the regular Casino Welcome Bonus (option 1), they are not eligible for this particular offer.

  • Minimum Deposit = £10
  • Deposit Match = 100%
  • Maximum Reward = £250
  • Rollover Requirement = 70 times on bonus only (not deposited amount)

The regular live casino rollover is usually 99 times but LeoVegas states that 70 is the magic number for this special welcome offer. The first deposit made for use in the Live Casino area is evenly matched.

Whereas we started out this section by saying that the deposit amounts are wagered first and can be cashed out, for this one, nothing can be cashed out until the rollover of 70 times is met. That play through requirement is only on the bonus, though, and not on the deposit itself.

The VIP Experience

We briefly touched upon VIP status in the withdrawal section as the level determines the number of free cash outs a player can request.

The VIP program is one that needs an opt-in, and that is accomplished by a player pulling up his or her profile page and then selecting “yes” to receive communication from the casino. Once that’s complete, a VIP bar should start showing the status and the progression based on every real money bet that’s made.

All players, regardless of group level, are put into a monthly drawing for different prizes that include Apple products, VIP event experiences, and other fun gifts. Each month one lucky player from each group will win and will be given a code to select the reward of their choice.

Other VIP Benefits

  • Unique Birthday rewards
  • Roaring Reward bonuses
  • Personal payment and withdrawal service
  • Dedicated account managers
  • Invitations to VIP exclusive events

The actual benefits do coincide with the VIP status, so not everyone is eligible for everything until they’ve put in some significant time into playing.

Customer Service

We had the pleasure of experiencing first-hand the level of service provided by customer service agents. Two emails were sent in and both were responded to within eight hours and both were also polite, courteous, and helpful.

We’ve seen other player accounts of similar service experiences so, aside from a few customers who were unhappy with their bonus payout results, there is an overall impression that this website provides quality and prompt service for its players.

Highlights

We’re glad we got to look beyond the first glance at LeoVegas because it really is a top-notch online casino service.

It has gone well above and beyond to provide its players with a vast assortment of the latest and greatest slot and table games. Slots are such a popular choice for so many online gamblers and more than 600 games is a pretty remarkable number.

The idea of prioritizing the mobile site is a genius one. How far can you go these days without seeing someone without their smartphone glued to their hand? By putting forth the ideal mobile site, the door is open to players who prefer mobile over the full site.

Regarding the mobile aspect though, we think it would be beneficial to have that information front and center. We didn’t realize that it was a mobile first casino without doing some research, so it’s likely that if you hadn’t read our handy-dandy little review guide here, that you wouldn’t know that either.

Although we’d like to see a video poker area added as well as transparency regarding the necessary financial information that new players need to review, Leovegas.com is an overall first-rate site managed by a group that knows what they’re doing.

Questions and Answers

What is the minimum age requirement?
Players need to be at least 18 years of age and comply with any locally applied restrictions.
I live in the United States. Can I register?
No. Unfortunately, American players, as well as residents of Afghanistan, Curaçao, Cyprus, Ethiopia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Somalia, Syria, and Yemen, are not permitted to register and use LeoVegas’ services. Everyone else is welcome as long as local laws permit.
How will I know what to do?
First of all, you will certainly have your choice of games, as there are hundreds of slots and dozens of tables from which to select. Slot play is the easiest for a beginner as there are typically no special skills required. New players can opt to use practice play and go a few rounds without risking any cash until they feel comfortable. Additionally, helpful information is provided within the casino and customer service agents can be reached via live chat to help in-game.
How do I get started?
If you reside in a restricted area, you won’t have access to LeoVegas, but all other players start with a simple registration that includes name, email and then phone verification. After you’ve established your player account, funding is next. Navigate to the cashier area to look through the options that include credit and debit cards as well as many of the most popular e-wallet services. Upon making your first deposit, you’ll be asked for your preference of welcome bonus or you’ll have the choice of declining the special offers. Once deposits are complete, you’re off and running so, select a game and get started.
Is LeoVegas safe and secure?
Four licensing and regulatory agencies alone provide for a safe gaming experience as they have different mandates for licensees. The UK requires all of its casinos and sportsbooks to undergo independent auditing and random number generator testing.

Additionally, aside from the actual gaming, LeoVegas protects player information and transactions with a 2048 bit SSL for the highest level of security.

Can I use my Android device for mobile casino play?
Absolutely. LeoVegas has designed its mobile casino to accommodate Apple and Android play. Additionally, the app is available in the Apple store. There is an Android app. However, it’s not available in the Google Play store. It needs to be downloaded directly. Android users who wish to use the app need to switch a setting on their device to allow apps outside of the Google Play store.

It’s a simple process. On the device itself, go to Menu, then Settings, then Security, and Unknown Sources to change the default setting. Once that’s complete, go to android.leovegas.com to install the app.
